I have the DA* and as said it is a superb lens and one of my favorites I don't have experience with the Sigma but I do with the older in both Pentax and Canon mounts Although not silent the focus speed and lock on are pretty good on the Pentax The focus speed and lock on are outstanding on my old Canon 1D Mk II NPenatx DA* f4 = US$1,300 Sigma f4 = US$1,0 Sigma 700 f28 = US$800 Adding the two Sigma's together, like you suggest above, is US$2,000 and the DA* is only US$1,300, so more costly than the DA* alone by US$700Indoors the is certainly better, but outdoors, the offers really great image quality I recommend this lens because I suspect I had a bad copy even though Pentax said it was acceptable

I'd choose the DA* over the Sigma for the same reason as Francis and Lance 60mm vs 100mm is quite big difference But 250mm vs 300mm the difference is pretty small Plus the weathersealing, the SDM, and being a Pentax, no reason to choose Sigma /4 (except lower price)The Pentax SMCDA* mm f/4 ED IF SDM is a member of the professional grade DA* lineup Its fieldofview is equivalent to about 923mm on a full format DSLR so it's obviously a lens which is primarily targeting sports and nature photography The constant max aperture (f/4) allows comparatively fast shutter speeds whereas its effectiveIndoors the is certainly better, but outdoors, the offers really great image quality I recommend this lens because I suspect I had a bad copy even though Pentax said it was
